Christmas Message 2011
This Christmas, as we reflect on the past 12 months and look forward to the promise of a New Year, we look back on, at times, a difficult year.
A year which has seen the impact of economic hardship, felt here in many homes and work places in Renfrewshire.
As someone raised here in Renfrewshire, I am proud to represent the communities of Paisley , Johnstone, Lochwinnoch, Kilbarchan, Elderslie & Howwood. That sense of community – the sense that we look out for each other - matters in these troubled economic times.
At this time my thoughts are with those local families who are struggling this festive season. And I look back on the past year I draw inspiration and real encouragement from the work of the many individuals, community groups and charities here in Renfrewshire, who do so much on behalf of others, often with little public recognition, to help those in need.
Their commitment and their concern will, in this coming year, be a source of great comfort and strength to many people in our community.
So 2011 for me ends as it began – with hope for a better future, throughout the world, and here at home in Renfrewshire.
In that spirit, may I wish the Paisley Daily Express and its readers a very Merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous and peaceful New Year.
