MP ACCUSES COUNCIL OF ANTI JOHNSTONE AGENDA

Public Toilets CampaignAlexander urges Council to “Loo-k Again”

Johnstone MP Douglas Alexander and Councillor Neil Bibby have backed community efforts to secure new public toilets for the town.

The MP is furious at what he calls “another example of the SNP led Council’s apparent anti Johnstone agenda.”

MP Douglas said:

“I worked with Councillor Neil Bibby last year to gather 1400 signatures in protest at the proposed closure of the town’s only public toilets at Houston Court.”

“The SNP led Council chose to ignore Johnstone people – and closed the toilets. Along with the closure of Johnstone nursery and now the proposed closure of Johnstone Swimming Pool it’s another example of the SNP led Council’s apparent anti Johnstone agenda.”

“So I was not surprised to hear that the SNP led Council has chosen to install a new automated toilet in Barshaw Park – while similar proposals for Johnstone were snubbed”.

“A year on my concerns remain. Few local residents understand that the Community Toilet Scheme exists, never mind know where to go.”

“So I welcome and support the efforts being made by Johnstone Community Council to improve the provision of toilets in the town. The Council should loo-k again at this while issue.”

Councillor Neil Bibby added:

"Johnstone is being betrayed by the SNP led Council. Swimming Pools are being kept open and new toilets are being opened in other areas but not in Johnstone.  Despite working with Douglas Alexander MP and local residents to oppose their plans, the SNP Councillors for Johnstone are refusing to listen. When they stood for election the SNP Councillors didn't say they would close Johnstone's facilities. They are betraying the people of Johnstone."
